Tuesday 24th August saw Malone's Fred Daly team, having won the Ulster North section of the competition, travelling to Clontarf to take on Roganstown in the first of the deciding matches for the all-Ireland title. David Craigan had a strong squad to choose from, though Adam Buchanan was unavailable because of a prior commitment

Their opponents were a formidable squad, four of whom had played in the Senior Cup team which won the all-Ireland trophy the previous week at Castle GC.
