Malone Golf Club considers the safety of our members and guests the top priority during inclement weather. We use a state of the art lightning detector which records flashes of lightning up to 40 miles away.

If it is decided that it is unsafe to continue to play golf as a storm approaches, the professional staff/club shop team will sound the klaxon to alert golfers.

NB: if there is a risk of lightning play MUST be discontinued, please note the new protocol as listed below:-

(i) 20-40 miles away, shop staff take note and constantly check detector for storm progression

(ii) 8-20 miles away, shop staff should have the klaxon on standby as storm approaches

(iii) 3-8 miles away, shop staff should sound a three second blast of the klaxon to let players know play is suspended and to retreat to the clubhouse

(iv) 0-3 miles away, shop staff should sound five short blasts of the klaxon to let players know to take immediate cover in a nearby bunker

(v) Once the risk of lightning has passed a long (10 second) blast of the klaxon sounded will let golfers know it is safe to return to the course and/or resume play
